β€œSalt of the Earth”

From: Perry, NY

About this piece: Although there are many ramifications of meanings of this term, I think at this time of Covid 19,  there are many people who indeed are being the salt of the earth, people of integrity and selflessness, who are serving others at the risk of their own health. Historically, salt has been so valuable that it has been used as currency over thousands of years. Thinking of people as the salt of the earth is the greatest of compliments.

Where they find inspiration: I attend the Livingston Art Group that meets each week in Lakeville, so I drive past the salt mine very often. The salt pile and towers stand out predominately in the landscape both up close and from across the Genesee valley. My son and son-in-law both work at the salt mine. I’d been interested as an artist for years to do a painting of this landmark.
