β€œFamily”

From: Geneseo, NY

About this piece: I used a drawing of mine called "Treasure”. This sketch is an image of a bird's growing family nestled safely in the branches of an old oak tree.  Oak trees reach out to each other through branches and roots, sharing nutrients and supporting one another, much like we do as a community and within our families. We are all family. The family we share our name with; the family we have at school or work, our neighborhood family, the family of humanity, the family of living beings. 2020 is showing us just how connected we all are. The word FAMILY can be removed and leaves put in its place; leaves also attach with magnets around the panel. You can use the panel to showcase family photos and keepsakes. They can be tucked into spots or held in place by the magnetized leaves and letters. The sides of the panel will have the word "FAMILY" written in over 80 languages, including Braille and ASL.

Where they find inspiration: I usually find my inspiration in nature but also current events can trigger an idea.
